The image on the cover depicts a closed curve in three- dimensional space and a parallelogram that is inscribed by this curve. In recent work that was published in Forum of Mathematics, Sigma Assistant Professor Florian Frick and his co-authors proved that every close curve in the three-dimensional space inscribes such a parallelogram. This resolves a nearly 50-year-old conjecture of Hadwiger and is closely related to the square peg problem, which is a notoriously difficult open problem that was originally posed by Toeplitz over 100 years ago.
